I'm breaking into doing panoramic photography now, or in other words QTVR. This is a need based move due to many of my clients wanting this and the relative low cost and ease that this can be done. I'll be posting more on this and what I've found in the future. Check out this great video that I found on-line by the 360 folks.

Olympus Stylus 1040, my new pocket camera

Ever wish you could carry your camera around with you everywhere you go so you never miss a shot? Well lots of us have cell phones with video and still picture capability that's alright in a pinch. Being a photographer, the cell phone camera is always a last resort. I decided to look around to see if I could get lucky with a super inexpensive point and shoot that would be good for backpacking and would fit in my pocket and be practically unnoticeable. I went for the $149 ($99 after rebate) Olympus Stylus 1040 10MP.

This camera is almost too tiny for me but I can push all the flush buttons with relative ease. I particularly like a nice wide angle lens, something about 28-30mm in film terms. This is one area that the Olympus lost out, it has closer to a 38mm. BUT, it does do panoramic shots so I thought I'd compromise. To my surprise, it does great 3 shot panos and the camera even automatically stitches them together for you. The 14.3"x3.6" @300dpi image shown is directly out of the camera. Additionally, I'll get 200 images shot at max resolution on the provided 1GB XD card. The micro and super micro features are also reliable. The video with sound is as good as I'd expect from a budget camera, which is acceptable since I do very little of it.

Basically, this little sucker does all that I wanted and didn't break the bank. Lastly, I purchased mine through Radio Shack on-line. If you buy from them, don't forget to download the rebate form from the site.

Hilton Garden Inn Shoot

This is a hotel shoot right in the heart of the tourist mecca, International Drive, Orlando Florida. A few of the challenges faced on this shoot was the food shots that the client wanted and the exteriors. Food is always a bit of a challenge due to the time needed and in this case, the fact that the hotel needed to breakdown the area and set up for a luncheon. Secondly the exteriors were a bit dicey, namely the tiki bar shots because of the strong winds, bright ambient light and they were open for business. Yep, I had patrons of the hotel all around me trying to get their drinks while I was trying to light and shoot the images. Everyone was patient and it all worked out in the end.

Latest photoshoot for SPARKS & Direct TV

This week I was contracted to photograph for a convention design company out of Santa Fe Springs, California called SPARKS. Their client DIRECT TV, was hosting a 2000+ dealer convention at Walt Disney World's Coronado Springs Resort and convention center.
This job was particularly challenging due to the mixed color balance of light and darkness to the room and textiles. I used 3 radio slaved lights for most of the images. I feel the images look natural and not overly lit or fake. Thanks for looking.

This is a foggy October sunset on Clingman's Dome in South Carolina. The colors were amazing and the fog was so thick that you could see the particulates of water floating in the air. The light was absolutely amazing. I can't wait to go back.
